Combatting the Coronavirus

As the struggle to deal with COVID-19 continues even now, more information is being discovered to properly understand and combat it. Researchers at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, have recently made a breakthrough in studying the virus. While it is still transmissible though the air, it can also survive on surfaces for up to 28 days in ideal conditions. This includes places like doorknobs, grocery cart handles, handrails, countertops, chairs, book covers, phone screens, or even silverware. It survives best on stainless steel surfaces in colder temperatures, but it can still survive for weeks in less ideal circumstances.  With that in mind, it is very important that you be sure to wash your hands for at least twenty seconds and avoid touching your face when in public. Carrying around disinfectant could also help in these situations, though not all disinfectant is strong enough to kill the virus. Also, because of how long the virus can survive on surfaces, it is recommended to disinfect any surfaces that come in contact with many different people throughout the day, such as car door handles, desks, or furniture.

As organizations like CSIRO work to discover more about COVID-19, the struggle to combat this outbreak will grow more manageable so long as proper precautions are taken. Future information will be made available as quickly as possible. In the meantime, be sure to do your part by following health mandates to help beat this virus.
